On the latest edition, Cam is joined by fellow kennel attendant Jack Lord to talk about life at kennels.
Jack talks about his time at Seeing Eye Dogs and explains the responsibilities of being a kennel attendant.
“I’ve been with SEDA for I think two years,” Jack says.
“We’re responsible for the enrichment and looking after the health of the dogs.”
Jack also explains his previous experience working with animal before his time at Seeing Eye Dogs.
“My first job was kennel attendant in this rural boarding facility … which was sort of my foot in the door into the industry,” Jack recalls.
“I worked there for a few years then I stepped into a role with RSPCA.”
Though the work as a kennel attendant can be fast-paced at times, Jack enjoys the day-to-day work at the kennels.
“The morning shifts, generally speaking, are a lot faster paced.
“We come in at 7am each morning. The dogs are let out to toilet so we do a swift clean of the kennel... So we’re just running around and feeding dogs and cleaning.”
For Jack, the great team he works with and knowing he is making a difference in the lives of the dogs are the most rewarding aspects of working at Seeing Eye Dogs.
“I think we’ve been blessed at [Seeing Eye Dogs] with how amazing our team is and how cohesive we work together. In some respects that’s one of the best parts of working here.
“And basically just going home and being able to know that you’ve made a difference in the lives of the dogs.”
